Abstract

1,158,323. Valves. CELANESE BUILDING COMPONENTS Ltd. 26 Oct., 1966 [26 Oct., 1965], No. 45273/65. Heading F2V. A float-actuated valve in which a valve member 9 is mounted in a valve chamber 1 has a pressure sensitive closure member 22 arranged to prevent substantial fluid flow through an orifice 18 at least when the pressure in the chamber exceeds a predetermined value and to permit fluid flow through the orifice at least when the pressure in the chamber falls below the external ambient pressure, the orifice 18 being positioned above the water inlet. The member 22 is preferably lighter than water so that it closes an opening 21 in a cap 20 screw-threaded to an auxiliary chamber 17 when the valve member 9 is open and water is being discharged from the pipe 2. If, however, the valve 9 is open and there is a suction in the pipe 2 air is drawn in through the opening 21 to prevent water being drawn up the outlet passage 3. The float arm 11, 13 is of brass, but the valve 9, which is of cruciform section and fitted with a rubber washer 10, and other parts are of thermoplastics material. The member 22 may be spring-loaded.
