Abstract
1,158,222. Luminescent materials. BRITISH LIGHTING INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 May, 1968 [28 June, 1967], No. 29909/67. Heading C4S. A phosphor comprises Ca titanate activated by Pr, preferably containing F and having some Ca replaced by Cd. The phosphor is prepared by twice heating to 800-1200‹ C. materials which thermally decompose to CaO and TiO 2 with Ca, Sr, Zn or Pb fluoride and an alkali metal salt as flux. A mixture of CaCO 3 , TiO 2 , CaF 2 and K 2 CO 3 with Pr nitrate solution added is dried and heated. The constituents may be co-precipitated by mixing an aqueous solution of K 2 TiO(C 2 O 4 ) 2 and NH 4 F with a solution of CaCO 3 , CdCl 2 and Pr(NO 3 ) 3 in HCl and adding a solution of (NH 4 ) 2 CO 3 . The phosphor may be boiled in phosphoric acid and H 2 O 2 . The phosphor is used in colour TV. fluorescent and HPMV lamps being excited by cathode, U.V. and X-rays; it is also electroluminescent and may be in an organic dielectric binder.
