Abstract

1,158,199. Preparation of 5<SP>1</SP>-guanylic acid. AJINOMOTO CO. Inc. 16 Oct., 1967 [9 Nov., 1966], No. 47120/67. Heading C2C. 5<SP>1</SP>-Guanylic acid is prepared by culturing under aerobic conditions an aqueous culture medium inoculated with a strain of a bacterium of the genus Arthrobacter or Corynebacterium capable of producing 5<SP>1</SP>-guanylic acid, the aqueous culture medium consisting of a carbon source, a nitrogen source, an inorganic phosphate source, an organic nutrient and/or an inorganic nutrient required for bacterial growth. The organic nutrient may be guanine in a preferred amount of from 0À2 to 0À6 g./dl. of culture medium and the inorganic nutrient may be magnesium ions present in a preferred amount of 0À008 to 0À2 g./dl. of culture medium. The pH of the culture medium during culturing is preferably maintained at from 5À5 to 8À5. The acid may be isolated as its disodium salt. Species of bacteria specified are Corynebacterium equi, including a new strain thereof, and a new species of Arthrobacter, the characteristics of which are described.
