Abstract
1,157,975. Asphalt-hydrocarbon resin mixtures. TREMCO MFG. CO. 26 Sept., 1966 [27 Sept., 1965], No. 42945/66. Heading C3N. A coating composition comprises: (a) cutback asphalt; 1-100% wt. based on (a) of a hydrocarbon resin; and 0À02-12% wt., based on (a)+(b), of (c) a wetting agent, (b) is a compatible aromaticcompound-containing resin of M.W. 200-1500, and may be derived from petroleum-cracking by-products; the aromatic portion may comprise polymerized polynuclear hydrocarbons and contain 2% free C. (a) may be 60-80% wt. asphalt of softening-point 100- 200‹ F. and PEN 20-60 in 40-70% wt. hydrocarbon solvent of b.p. 200-360‹ F. (a) may have flash-point 500‹ F. (c) may be anionic, e.g. petroleum sulphonates or alkyl sulphates, e.g. lauryl sulphate cationic, e.g. quaternary ammonium compounds, e.g. alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride; or nonionic, e.g. alkyl phenol polyglycol ethers, sorbitan monoleate, or polyoxyethylene sorbitan trioleate. The composition may comprise (d) fibres, e.g. #-1¢- inches in length, forming 0À1-7À5% wt. of total composition: e.g. hogs' hair, horse-hair, wool, or glass fibres. Also present may be 10-50% wt., based on total composition, of filler, e.g. asbestos, CaCO 3 , Mg silicate, or clay. The composition is weather-resistant and may be used as a roof-coating or mastic roof cement. Multiple layers can be used.
