1,157,919. Reducing effects of caffeine. GENERAL FOODS CORP. 6 Dec., 1967, No. 55576/67. Heading A2B. In a composition containing caffeine, for example a beverage or a food such as coffee, the stimulating effects of the caffeine are reduced by the addition of one or more of the compounds purine, xanthine, 1-methyl xanthine, 3-methyl xanthine, 7-methyl xanthine or theobromine, the compound being present in an amount in excess of that naturally present. Preferably a mixture of theobromine with one or more methyl xanthines is employed.
