Abstract

1,157,613. Non-anaphylactic cephalosporins. BEECHAM GROUP Ltd. 21 July, 1966 [31 July, 1965], No. 32857/65. Heading C2A. The invention comprises non-anaphylactic cephalosporins of general formula wherein RCO is an organic acyl group, and wherein A is C 1-6 alkanoyloxy, benzoyloxy, hydroxy, pyridinium or, when taken together with M, a monovalent C-O bond; M is H, a nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable cation, an anionic charge when A is pyridinium, or when taken together with A, a monovalent C-O bond; having removed therefrom strongly antigenic proteinaceous material of molecular weight over 1000 inherently present in the cephalosporin when obtained by a fermentation process. The commercial sample of the cephalosporin (e.g. cephaloridine) or a starting material (e.g.7- aminocephalosporanic acid) may be subjected to (a) dialysis or (b) gel filtration. Specification 1,078,847 is referred to. A therapeutic composition comprises a non- anaphylactic cephalosporin and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
