Abstract

The invention relates to non-anaphylactic benzylpenicillin or a non-toxic salt thereof, comprising commercially available benzylpenicillin or a non-toxic salt thereof, having removed therefrom the highly antigenic penicilloylated proteins and peptides of molecular weight over 1000 inherently present in the penicillin when prepared by a fermentation method. The purification is obtained by dialysis or gel filtration. The salts are the conventional salts of benzyl-penicillin. A pharmaceutical composition comprises non-anaphylactic benzylpenicillin as defined above and a carrier for oral or parenteral administra-tion.
