1,157,580. Voltage controlled oscillator. FUJITSU Ltd. 23 Dec., 1966 [25 Dec., 1965], No. 57797/66. Heading H3R. A voltage controlled oscillator comprises a capacitor in series with a Zener diode, the oscillator frequency depending on the ratio of " on " time to " off " time of the diode, this being determined by a control voltage applied to the diode. The oscillator voltage appears across diodes 41, 42 together with bias applied from terminal 18<SP>1</SP>. With no bias at terminal 18<SP>1</SP> the diodes 41, 42 conduct on one half-cycle of oscillation thereby connecting capacitor 23<SP>1</SP> in parallel with capacitor 15<SP>1</SP> and inductor 141; on the next half-cycle 41, 42 are cut off and the tuned circuit comprises only capacitor 15<SP>1</SP> in parallel with inductor 14<SP>1</SP>, so that over the whole cycle the oscillator operates at a mean frequency. If the bias at terminal 18<SP>1</SP> is altered positively or negatively, the duty cycle of the diodes 41, 42 is altered thereby altering the frequency towards one or other extreme.
