Abstract
1,157,320. Fluorine compounds. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 March, 1968 [14 March, 1967], No. 11956/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Esters containing fluoro groups are prepared in examples by the reaction of: (1) pentaerythritol, acetic anhydride and pentadecafluoro-octanoic acid (PFOA), giving the triacetate-mono-PFOA-ate; (2) H(CF 2 ) 10 CH 2 OH or (3) H(CF 2 ) 6 CH 2 OH and phthalic anhydride; (4) triethylene glycol and PFOA chloride, giving the monoester; (14) castor oil and PFOA; (17) the lauric acid " diester " of trimethylol amino methane and PFOA which gives 4- lauroylmethyl - 4 - PFOA - oylmethyl - 2 - lauryl-oxazoline; commercial rosin with (20) H(CF 2 ) 6 CH 2 OH, (21) H(CF 2 ) 10 CH 2 OH and (22) maleic anhydride followed by H(CF 2 ) 10 CH 2 OH; and (23) (C 2 F 5 ) 2 (CF 3 ).C.CH 2 COOH (prepared by reacting tetrafluoroethylene pentamer with NaOH or KOH and conversion of the resulting salt to the free acid) with SOCl 2 and then diethylene glycol monoethyl ether. The lauric acid " diester" of trimethylolamino propane is made by esterifying the appropriate free acid and free alcohol (Ex. 17). In Ex. 7, H(CF 2 ) 6 CH 2 OH is reacted with P 2 O 5 , giving a mixture of the mono- and diorthophosphates.
