Abstract
1,156,986. Producing composite articles. NIPPON TELEGRAPH & TELEPHONE PUBLIC CORP. 14 Oct., 1966 [16 Oct., 1965], No. 46133/66. Heading B3A. [Also in Divisions C7 and H1] A thin film magnetic memory element is produced by covering a non-magnetic conductive ductile metallic base having a Vickers hardness of 60-200 with a ductile magnetic alloy, and elongating the element by wire drawing or sheet rolling until its cross-sectional area is less than 20% of the original and the thickness of the alloy is less than 20 Á. The base may be an alloy of Ag-Cu, Be-Cu, Ni-Cu, Ag-Ni-Cu, Cd-Cu, Cu-Sn-Zn, or Cu-Sn-ZnP, e.g. phosphor bronze. The magnetic alloy may be Co-Ni, Cu-Fe-Ni, Cu-Fe-Co, Ni-Fe-Mn, or Ni-Fe, e.g. permalloy containing 35-55% Ni or 75-85% Ni. The element may be annealed at 400-1050‹ C. before and during elongation. The covering may be applied by vacuum deposition, electroplating, or by fitting a pipe over a rod. In Example 3, a coated 10 mm. diameter rod was drawn to 6 mm. diameter,, annealed at 650‹ C., drawn to 3 mm., annealed again, and finally drawn to 0À1 mm.
