[Also in Division H1] Resistance heating elements for use with a thermal switch (see Division H1) are made of material having a steep-positive-sloped resistivity-temperature curve such as carbon-black loaded, cross-linked polyethylene and the semi-conducting barium titanate ceramics Ba. 0 . 997 La 0 . 003 TiO 3 and Ba 0 . 909 Pb 0 . 088 La 0 . 003 TiO 3 in the form of pieces with electrically conducting layers such as silver attached to opposite faces of each piece. They are mounted on the switch bimetal and electrically separated therefrom by a layer of electrically insulating material such as mica, or by a layer of electrical and thermal insulation such as a polycarbonate separated from the bimetal by one or two portions to form an airgap.
