Abstract

1,156,793. Bitumen and polyamide composition. EVODE Ltd. 19 Sept., 1966 [12 Oct., 1965], No. 43191/65. Heading C3N. A bitumen is modified by heating it till liquid and dispersing therein up to 10% weight, based on bitumen and resin of a polyamide resin. The modified bitumen may be dissolved in a solvent, e.g. white spirit, to give a thixotropic composition, containing e.g. 50% weight solvent. Also present may be fillers, e.g. asbestine, asbestos, mica, sand, siliceous fillers, CaCO 3 , and BaSO 4 . The bitumen may be natural, residual, or processed, e.g. oxidized petroleum residual bitumen. The polyamide is preferably formed by condensation of polybasic carboxylic acids or esters with aliphatic polyamines, having amine value (mg KOH/g) of 30-100, and may be liquid or solid. The bitumen may have R & B softening pt. 85‹ C. and the polyamide R & B 100‹ C.
