Abstract
504,596. Rail joints; wax compositions. FAZAKERLEY, J. April 29, 1938, No. 12851. [Class 104 (ii)] [Also iii Group V] A rail joint comprises a pair of slots in the upper surfaces of the rail ends bridged by a bar 4, which completely fills and is fixed in one slot, and partly fills the other slot, the residual space in the latter being filled with a plastic substance 5. The bar may be fixed in the first slot by a wold 6 and a pin &c. 10 passing through the bar into the rail. The pin 10 may be replaced or supplemented by a horizontal pin, or the bar may be fixed by providing a notch 12 into which metal from the rail is drifted. The plastic substance may consist of synthetic resin or a composition of 60-80 per cent of beeswax, 15-30 per cent of pitch, and 5-10 per cent of creosote.
