Abstract
1,156,651. Offshore marine structure; wells etc. GEORGE WIMPEY & CO; Ltd. 19 Aug., 1966 [1 June, 1965], No. 23399/65. Headings E1F and E1H. A marine structure comprises a mast or conductor tube for drilling 1, positioned and embedded in the sea bed 2 by operations on a barge 3, a 4 slidably borne on the mast or conductor tube 1 and at least three supporting legs 5 pivotally attached at 6 to the collar when floated into position to the collar 4 when the collar was originally winched down the mast or conductor tube to sea level. The buoyancy of the legs 5 is rendered negative so that the legs fall outward and away from the mast under control of winched cables (8), Fig. 7 (not shown) from the barge. Fitting .16, attached to the mast above water level, has adjustable tension braces 7 fixed from the legs 5 to it prior to the legs falling outwardly. In another embodiment the legs 5 may be adapted to form in outspread position a tripod supporting the mast as compression members.
