1,156,276. Treating glass filaments and fabrics. J. P. STEVENS & CO. Inc. 9 Nov., 1967 [5 Dec., 1966], No. 51075/67. Heading C1M [Also in. Division D1] A high silica content fabric is formed by selecting glass filaments having a diameter in the range of from 0À00010 inch to 0-00015 inch, twisting the filaments into a yarn and forming the yarn into a fabric, leaching the fabric with an acid to remove substantially all oxides other than SiO 2 , washing the leached fabric with a solution of ammonium hydroxide and subsequently heating the fabric at a temperature and for a time sufficient to shrink the fabric and to reduce the moisture content to less than 6% by weight. HCl is the preferred acid and firing is at temperatures from 1,650‹ F.
