883,154. Finishing yarns. MOULINAGE ET RETORDERIE DE CHAVANOZ. Feb. 2, 1960 [Feb. 19, 1959; Sept. 11, 1959], No. 3729/60. Class 120(3) [Also in Group XI] In an apparatus for heating yarns, especially for the production of high bulk yarns by false twisting thermoplastic filaments and setting them by heat, a closer control of the final temperature is obtained by using a thermostatically controlled preheater element to heat the yarn to a temperature near to but below the required temperature and thermostatically controlled auxiliary heater following in the direction of travel of the yarn to heat the yarn up to the required temperature. The heating sections may overlap. The yarn 4, Fig. I, passes through preheater section A and auxiliary heater section B. To achieve a yarn temperature of 220‹C. from a starting (ambient) temperature of 200‹C. the preheater element supplies 92À5-97À5% of the total heat supplied to the yarn. In another form the yarn passes through casing 6, Fig. 5, and its made to run in direct contact with the heating elements. If the yarn is to be heated to 231‹C. 10À5 the preheater section supplies 95-99% of the total heat required. Specification 745,337 is referred to.
