Abstract

[Also in Division H1] A pressure relief valve for a capacitor, particularly electrolytic, comprises an aperture 5 in the capacitor housing or its sealing plate, the aperture being covered by a valve element 1 in one form of a ring of resilient material secured by rivet 2 and having a lip portion bearing against a flange 4 so that the lip lifts when excess pressure develops within the housing. Washer 3 may be interposed between the rivet head and the valve element. In other embodiments the inner edge of the ring may bear against an upstanding portion of the casing or sealing plate, and the ring secured by a turnedover portion of the casing or sealing plate (Figs. 2, 4, not shown). Alternatively (Fig. 6, not shown) the valve aperture is in the base of a cup-like extension of the casing or sealing plate and the valve element is pushed into the cup with its lip wedged against the sides thereof. The valve arrangement may be combined with baffles in the casing or cover to prevent liquid escaping while the valve is open (Figs. 7, 8, not shown).
