Abstract

1,155,911. Boots &c. PROCTOR-LAURETTI MACHINE CO. 8 Aug., 1966, No. 5397/66. Heading A3B. A shoe upper moulding machine has a plurality of mould assemblies 2 mounted on a turret 6 which can be rotated incrementally through a full cycle and which can be locked against movement between the increments of rotation. Each mould assembly 2 includes a fixed inner mould 50, a movable female mould 58, wipers 90 and a gauge plate 99. The turret 6 (Figs. 1, 7) is mounted on a fixed axle 5 and carries a set of rollers 23 which can be engaged by a pusher 21 on the piston rod 17 of an air motor 20. The other end of the pusher 21 is pivoted to a lever 18 on the slide block 19 which can be reciprocated by an air motor 25. With the slide plate 19 in the position shown in Fig. 7 actuation of the motor 20 causes the turret 6 to be indexed through one increment and with the slide plate 19 in its other position (shown dotted, Fig. 7) the pusher 21 clears the rollers 23 to allow the pusher 21 to be retracted and a groove 28 in a lever 27 engages a roller 23 to lock the turret against rotation. Each mould assembly 2 (Figs. 1, 3) includes a housing 47 which carries a heated inner mould 50 and a slide plate 57. The slide plate has resiliently mounted thereon a two part female mould 58 having a continuous liner 71. Movement of the slide plate 57 towards the inner mould 50 causes the female mould 58 to close about the inner mould 50. Each slide plate 57 carries a roller 112 which is engaged by an abutment 124 at the operator's station 15. The abutment 124 can be moved forwardly to close the mould by a toggle 122 operated by an air motor 120. The mould is held in its closed position at the other stations by the rollers 112 engaging a cam surface 114 and is opened when it approaches the operator's station by a cam track 116. The wipers 90 (Fig. 2) are pivoted to a second slide plate 59 in the housing 47. Levers 95 pivoted to the slide plate 59 have ends 96 which engage recesses 97 in the wipers 90. The other ends of the levers 95 are held between abutments on the housing 47 so that forward movement of the slide plate 59 causes the wipers 90 to advance and close. A gauge plate 99 which ensures the correct amount of lasting margin is also mounted on the slide plate 59. The gauge plate 99 is carried by a lever 101, 102, which is urged upwardly to its inoperative position by a spring 103 and which can be lowered to operative position by a shoe 108 (Fig. 1) when the slide plate 59 is moved forwardly at the operator's station. The slide plate 59 has a roller 111 which is engaged by a block 128 on a lever 127 at the operator's station 15 so that movement of the lever 127 by air motor 126 causes the slide plate 59 to move to gauging position. The plate is advanced further to cause the wipers to operate by a cam 132 and then by a pusher 137 operated by air motor 134. The machine is semi-automatic and operates as follows:- the operator places a shoe upper over the inner mould and depresses a treadle (not shown) which causes the slide plate 59 to move to its gauging position. When the operator is satisfied that the lasting margin is at the correct height he depresses a second treadle (not shown) which causes the female mould 58 to close about the shoe upper and the turret 6 is then indexed through one increment. The wipers 90 operate automatically at the next station and the mould is automatically opened when it returns to the operator's station.
