Abstract

1,155,893. Percussive tools. FUNDITOR Ltd. 9 Nov., 1967 [9 Nov., 1966], No. 60145/66. Heading B4C. A pneumatically-actuated percussive tool, such as for marking metal billets, comprises an impact piston 39 movable in a cylinder 1 under the control of a value means 24, 33 and adapted to strike a stamping head 12, the latter, when pressed against a workpiece, being arranged to vent the space between the piston and the head and, when pressure on the workpiece is relieved, to close the vent. The stamping head 12 is mounted on a carrier 5 which is axially movable in holder 2, the degree of travel of the holder being limited by a collar 10; a plunger 15 is slidably mounted in the carrier and is adapted to be struck by the piston. In operation, when the head is pressed against a workpiece the head moves a rod 19 which, in turn, moves a distributing valve 24 so as to allow air to act on a piston 32 via ports 27, 31, and open a main inlet valve 33. The piston is then moved on its working stroke, the air in front of the piston being vented via a groove 17 in the carrier 5 and aligned ports 18 in the holder.
