Abstract

1,155,791. Coatings. BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd. 20 Feb., 1968 [20 Feb., 1967], No. 7891/67. Addition to 1081462. Heading B2K. [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] A PVC composition for fusion coating of metals contains triaminoimelamine and a polyepoxide, e.g. diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, bis (3,4-epoxy-6-methyl-cyclohexylmethyl) adipate or 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl 3,4-epoxycyclohexane carboxylate. There may also be present a plasticiser, e.g. diisooctyl phthalate, organotin stabiliser, carbon black and a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-maleic anhydride copolymer. The composition is applied to gritblasted mild steel, cold rolled steel, polished steel or aluminium by a fluidised bed, electrostatic or dip coating technique. In a preferred method the coating is applied then a second coating' comprising only polymer and plasticiser is applied. The coatings are stored at 270-290‹C for up to three minutes.
