Abstract

1,155,693. Collars. P. G. LEE. 27 April, 1966, No. 18376/66. Heading A3V. A temporary stiffness for display purposes is imparted to a shirt or blouse collar having a top and bottom layer of non-iron top fabric and a cotton interlining with wet and/or dry crushproof properties by applying to the interlining, at least on the surface adjacent the top layer in the under collar region, an acrylic resin which is caused to adhere to the top fabric by the dry application of heat and pressure and which will be removed at the first wash. Many substances e.g. epoxy resins, carbamic acid esters and pre-condensates of ammino plastics e.g. methylol melamines, are suggested for rendering cotton top fabric non-iron; top fabrics of synthetic fibres e.g. polyamides or polyesters are dressed only by washing, bleaching, dyeing or possibly using softeners or hardeners. The cotton interlining is rendered crushproof by treatment with reactant resins, e.g. methyl compounds of triazine derivatives, or with N-free linking agents e.g. trialkyl sulphone derivatives. The acrylic resin may be a copolymer of methyl and ethyl esters of acrylic and methacrylic acid and is applied to fabric for interlinings by brushing and to pre-cut interlinings by screen printing. The interlining is preferably cut on the cross and may be bonded to the top fabric at areas not treated with acrylic resin by a permanent adhesive. As shown, Fig. 2, acrylic resin is applied to the top collar and under collar regions 8a and 8b of the interlining 3 on the surface adjacent the top layer 1 and permanent adhesive is applied at regions 4a, 4b on the surface adjacent the bottom layer 2. The interlining 3 is first sewn to layers 1 and 2, layer 1 and the interlining are turned back and the edge 11 of the garment is inserted between the inturned edges for the seam 12. The collar fold region 7 and button and button hole regions at the collar ends are not coated with acrylic resin.
