Abstract

1,155,515. Printing plates. COLUMBIA RIBBON & CARBON MFG. CO. Inc. 11 July, 1967 [29 July, 1966], No. 31801/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Divisions B2 and G2] A heat-stable transpicuous planographic printing plate capable of being imaged by reflex thermographic transfer comprises a translucent flexible plastics film support having a hydrophilic surface of hydrolysed cellulose ester, and a translucent planographic layer including a hydrophilic binder and a filler. A translucent hydrophilic intermediate layer may be present between the support and printing layers. The support may consist of or carry a layer of hydrolysed cellulose acetate, acetate propionate, or acetate butyrate, and the printing layer may comprise polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, casein, methyl cellulose or starch, containing as a filler clay, TiO 2 , or SiO 2 , in a binder: filler ratio of 1: 1 to 1: 4. The hydrolysed cellulose ester film may be less than 4 mils. thick, may be lightly etched or frosted, and may be laminated to a plastics support of e.g. " Mylar " (Trade Mark), or may be a cellulose ester film hydrolysed on the faces. The intermediate layer may comprise a hydrophilic binder, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol, containing up to 25% filler, e.g. S: O 2 and clay.
