Abstract

1,155,263. Masted lift trucks. CLARK STACATRUC Ltd. 14 July, 1966 [15 April, 1965], No. 16153/65. Heading B8H. [Also in Division H2] A self-propelled battery-powered industrial truck with lifting facilities incorporates a control circuit for sensing the battery voltage and disabling the lifting facilities when the voltage falls below a predetermined amount for longer than a given time, so that undue loads cannot be imposed on a discharged battery; the control circuit itself being disabled during a lifting operation, so that lifting cannot be stopped in an inconvenient position. When the manual and seat switches RS1 and SS1 are closed by the operator of the truck the battery energizes control circuit relay coil VR/1 via a normally closed switch LS2. This in turn energizes a time delay relay TR/ 1 to change the position of contact TR1 and energize the hold relay coil HR/1. When the battery voltage falls below a given amount the relay VR/1 is de-energized and the contact VR1 opens, but the delay relay TR/1 is held on by the discharge of capacitor 18 and is therefore only de-energized if the voltage fall persists for longer than a given time, say 7 seconds. In these circumstances contact TR1 returns to its original position, energizing the latch relay LRA/2 to close contacts LRA2 so that the alarm 28 sounds, and change the position of contacts LRA1 so that the supply to the lift switch LS1 is cut off to prohibit operation of the lift gear. The circuit is such that the switch TS1 can still be operated to supply power to the driving circuits of the truck. An alternative arrangement uses a thermal relay in place of the capacitor controlled delay relay. The switch LS2 opens during the performance of a lift operation, to disable the control circuit during this time. Once the latch has operated, it can only be released by operating a special key switch KS2 after the battery has been recharged.
