Abstract

115,486. Falconer, W. W. P., and Deans, J. May 9, 1917. Exercising-apparatus.-Relates to apparatus for exercising and loosening stiffened joints and of the kind in which an oscillatory adjustably weighted pendulum is employed, and comprises means for exercising and loosening the wrist joint in respect of lateral movements. The patients' forearm is secured by a strap t to an adjustable grooved support c, and the hand is clamped with the palm downwards between boards o, p. The board o is carried by a turntable o mounted on a vertical shaft n connected by bevel gearing to an horizontal shaft h which carries at its end a disk k to which the pendulum d is secured. The pendulum may be locked to the disk k by means of bracket.s and screws z, and, when the screws are loosened, the turntable c can be adjusted angularly to give it a lead to one side or the other of the pendulum, the extent of the adjustment being indicated by the graduations of the disk k. The height of the support c is adjustable by means of wedges u, and the pendulum is provided at its upper end with a fixed weight v and at its lower end with an adjustable weight w. A slotted arm or quadrant 2 with adjustable stops 3 may be provided to limit the movement of the hendulum.
