Abstract

1433387 Levels AGA A B 18 April 1973 [20 April 1972 8 Feb 1973] 18707/73 Headings F and G1F A device for setting the inclination to the horizontal of a tiltable member e.g. a drill support, crane or platform, comprises a housing for attachment to the member at an adjustable angle thereto in a vertical plane, the housing having a level and means for producing a magnified image of the level-indicating bubble &c. in a form visible from an operating position from which the inclination is controlled. The device 10 shown is attached to a drill support 9, being slideable along and rotatable about a guide rod 8. The chosen position of the housing along the rod 8 is fixed by a screw 14 and it may swing freely to lie in a vertical, plane or be rotated to this position by a motor 10. The housing comprises two pivoted parts 17, 18 which, by using a scale, 6 are set relative to each other at the desired inclination of the support 9 to the horizontal. The part 18 contains a level 1 and illuminating and magnifying means 2, 7, 19 which produce an image of the bubble on a screen 4 visible from the operating position of the drill. The operator then tilts the support 9 until the level bubble is centred after which, the drill is at the desired inclination to the work. The housing may include a compass 5 to give the desired direction of drilling or an azimuth ring carrying four sighting elements (25) Fig. 4 (not shown) may be mounted on the part 18 (21 in Fig. 4). A universal joint may connect the two parts 17, 18. The part 18 is in two portions 1 1a, 11b relatively rotatable by hand or a motor 30 to enable the screen 4 to be directed towards the operator.
