Abstract

1,154,626. Coated glass. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 May, 1967 [20 May, 1966], No. 23317/67. Heading B2K [Also in Divisions C1 and E1]. A heat-reflecting filter is produced by heating a glass substrate to between 350‹C. and the softening-point of the glass, spraying a solution comprising an organic indium chelate onto the heated substrate until the thickness of the indium containing layer formed (measured after cooling) is at least 0.2Á to form an indium oxide layer the composition of the glass forming the substrate being 10 to 35% Na 2 O and/or K 2 O 5 to 25% alkaline earth metal oxides of which more than half is CaO and wherein there is at least 5% CaO, 50 to 75% SiO 2 , and less than 20% Al 2 O 3 . The indium chelate may be indium salicylaldehyde, indium benzoylacetonate, indium acetyl acetonate. The layers produced on the glass substrates were free from turbidity, and the products were suitable for the manufacture of heat-reflecting window panes. The solution may also comprise a tin compound as a doping agent in order to obtain optimum conductivity e.g. tetrabutyl tin, or stannic chloride. The heat-reflecting filters may be used as glass panes in a window assembly comprising at least two .parallel glass panes with a gasfilled intermediate space or spaces, the gas filling consisting of say: dry krypton. In the Example a solution comprising butyl acetate, acetyl acetone, indium acetylacetonate and stannic chloride was sprayed on a glass plate at 500‹C and comprising 72.6% SiO 2 , 0.9% Al 2 O 3 , 6.6% CaO, 4.4% MgO, 10.8% Na 2 O, 4.7% K 2 0.
