Abstract

1,154,617. Making containers. CORNELIUS CO. 23 Sept., 1966 [11 March, 1966], No. 42690/66. Heading B3A. [Also in Divisions B5 and B8] A continuous method of making and filling containers with liquid, e.g. a beverage, comprises making aseptic open-topped containers from aseptic blanks of sheet material, filling them, and then capping them. As shown, a metal strip 10 is fed between spreaders 12 which apply a layer of epoxy resin &c. to both sides. Sheets 13 of nylon &c. are then pressed on to both sides by rollers 15. The resulting laminate is fed to heaters 18, which cure the resin. A cabinet 19 providing a sterile space receives the cured laminate, and contains a punch 20 which cuts from it disc blanks 22. A hopper 23 receives the disc blanks 22, and when it is full, is sealed by a closure 24. The hopper 23 is then transferred to a receiver 29 in a sterile working enclosure 30. The disc blanks are fed, one at a time, to a first punch and die 33, where they are partially formed into a cup shape, and then to a second punch and die 37, where the completion of the shaping of the containers is effected. Still within the sterile enclosure 30, the containers are filled with beverage through nozzles 40, and when filled are moved to a capping station 43 &o., where they are sealed.
