Abstract

1,154,586. Hydrodynamic couplings and converters. BARCLAY, CURLE & CO. Ltd. 19 Aug., 1966 [1 Sept., 1965], No. 37276/65. Headings F2C and F2L. In a fluid coupling, hydrodynamic torque converter or powder clutch having circumferentially spaced exhaust ducts 2 in a rotatable casing 1, the exhaust from each duct 2 is controlled by an individual slide valve 6. Each valve comprises a plate 6 slidable in a guide 8 secured to the casing 1. A spring 16 urges the plate 6 left to block the duct 2 and the plate is moved right to align a hole 7 therein with the duct 2 by a Bowden cable 12. Each Bowden cable is connected by a lever 24 to a common ring 26, 27 engaged by studs 33 on axially slidable non-rotatable operating rods 32. The rods 32 may be moved axially by mechanical, electric or hydraulic means.
