Abstract

1,153,490. Advancing mine roof supports. H. J. VON HIPPEL. 31 Aug., 1966 [1 Sept., 1965; 7 Sept., 1965; 7 Jan., 1966], No. 38850/66. Heading E1P. In an advancing mine roof support adapted to be advanced when in roof supporting position the roof support S comprises relatively moveable roof bars 9, 16 whilst the floor engaging unit S' is of like construction. The roof support consists of two I-shaped beams 16 and a central bar 9, the beams 16 being directly carried by a bearing part 4 whilst the bar 9 is mounted thereon through the interposition of roller bearings 8 and a hydraulic lifting unit 5, 6. The bar 9 is advanced by a jack 12, 13 and a like jack 12' is disposed between the floor engaging unit and the conveyor 20. The support is also provided with a shield 19 and all the hydraulic cylinders of the support are connected to a common supply source including a relief valve, pressure amplifier and control valve. In a modification, Figs. 3 - - 8, (not shown), the prop is provided with a cross-member which carries a pair of relatively advancing roof systems S as described above, the floorengaging unit being of corresponding construction. A leaf spring is used to retain the prop in the vertical position and the goaf shield is pivotally connected to the outer roof bars. Adjustment rams or screw-threaded spindles are also used for pivotal control of the advancing bars. Two modified units as set out above may be incorporated in an advancing frame used for the shifting and anchoring of the driving head of a face gallery conveyor for details of which frameadapted to be shifted in two directions at right-angles to one another either simultaneously or in independen shifting steps, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown) should be referred to.
