Abstract
1,153,470. Knitting-machines; stop-motion. WILLIAM BAKER (LEICESTER) Ltd. 21 Dec., 1967 [24 Dec., 1966; 21 July, 1967], Nos. 57884/66 and 3308/67. Headings D1C and DID. A device for detecting slubs in yarns fed to a knitting machine and thereby stopping the machine and further feeding of the yarn comprises a tubular guide 16 through which the yarn passes and resiliently supported by a spring on rings 15 of foam plastic to hold a flange 9 on the tube and constituting an electrical contact out of engagement from a metal sleeve 13 constituting a second electrical contact. Consequently a slub in the yarn is engaged in the tube 16 and urges the flange 9 into engagement with the sleeve 13 thereby completing an electrical circuit and effecting stoppage of the machine. The various components are housed and supported in a casing 10 and cover 11. Alternatively, the tube 117, Fig. 3, may have upper 121 and lower 119 discs attached to it the lower disc 119 engaging the flange 113 of a supporting sleeve 114 and thereby completing an electrical circuit effecting stoppage of the machine. The top of the tube is fitted with a mushroom head which can be interchanged with others having different diameter yarn guiding apertures depending on the size of yarn.
