Abstract
1,153,458. Pressure gauges. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. Nov.11, 1966 [Jan.3, 1966], No.50683/66. Heading G1L. [Also in Division H1] A pressure responsive device comprises a casing 12, 14, a snap-acting diaphragm 22 mounted on the casing and defining a cavity within the casing, and force enerting means mounted on the casing adjacent the peripheral portion 25 of diaphragm 22 and operable to bend the peripheral portion 25 such that the pressure differential necessary to cause snap-action of the diaphragm 22 is adjustable. As shown, the means for bending peripheral portion 25 comprises a ring 26 which when screwed upwards presses member 27 against flexible ring 20. The motion of diaphragm 22 is transmitted by motion transfer member 131 to a switch 100 comprising a plate 102 supporting by glass sealant 112 terminal 108 carrying fixed contact 114 and terminal 110 carrying moving contact 120 on spring 116. In a second embodiment, three diaphragms 22 are used together to give a different operating pressure and this peripheral portions 25 project outside the casing being sandwiched with ring 20 between flanges on the casing, the sandwich being bent outside the casing to bend portions 25. Ring 20 in this case is integral inch member 27 to support member 131. In a third embodiment the sandwich is bent by one or two rings threaded on the outside of the casing each having a projection bearing on the sandwich. In addition the valve of pressure required to operate the diaphragm may be raised by providing a spring member (not shown) within aperture 24 one end of which is fixed and the other end of which bears against portion 23 as described in Specification 1, 077, 825.
