Abstract
1,153,415. Condensation of steam in power plant. MASCHINENBAU-A.G. BALCKE. 31 Jan., 1968 [7 Feb., 1967], No. 4939/68. Heading B1B. Exhaust steam from turbine 4 enters condenser 1 and is condensed by direct contact with water supplied through nozzles 13, the water being withdrawn from the condenser by pump 5 and in part recirculated to the condenser through air-cooled elements 8, 9, conduit 11 and expansion turbine 12. The highest point 10 of the cooling elements is connected by conduit 15 to a closed water-tank 16, disposed about 10 metres above the highest point, and the air space in the tank is connected by conduit 17 to the vapour-space of the condenser. Expansion turbine 12 is regulated by a governor 21 controlled by a pressure-gauge 20 in condenser 1; e.g. if the pressure falls below a predetermined value, governor 21 shifts the setting member of the rotor blades in such a manner that the water throughput is reduced. The excess water then accumulates in tank 16. The adjustment of the rotor blades of pump 5 is regulated by a governor 19 controlled by a float 18 which rises or falls with the waterlevel in tank 16. Pump 5 may be coupled to expansion turbine 12.
