Abstract
1,152,690. Biocidal compositions containing stabilized silver solutions. MULTI-PHARMA TRUST REG. 14 Oct., 1966 [14 Oct., 1965], No. 45963/66. Addition to 1036404. Headings A5B and A5E. [Also in Divisions A2 and C1] A stabilised disinfectant and bactericidal composition is prepared by reacting silver oxide or silver carbonate in an aqueous medium with an alkali metal hydrogen-- sulphate. One or more of the compound silver sulphate, zinc oxide, copper oxide, zinc sulphate and copper sulphate may be mixed with the silver oxide or carbonate and the alkali metal hydrogen sulphate is preferably the sodium or potassium salt. The product may be obtained by (a) mixing the silver compound and the hydrogen sulphate and then mixing with water; (b) suspending the silver salt in water and adding the hydrogen sulphate or (c) dissolving the hydrogen sulphate in water and adding the silver salt. The ratio of silver salt to hydrogen sulphate is preferably between 1:1.25 and 1:10 parts by weight. The composition may be used as a bactericide, fungicide, veterinary medicine, germicide, pesticide, insecticide, cleansing and deodorising agent for animal .bowels and meat products, food additive, douching agent, contraceptive means and as an antiseptic for feminine hygiene. Hexamethylene tetramine also may be present.
