Abstract

1,152,455. Flash-bulbs. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 10, 1966 [June 15, 1965], No. 25884/66. Heading G2L. The formation of light absorbing layers on the internal wall of a flash-bulb is retarded by coating the inner wall with one or more thin layers of a colourless substance which evaporates below about 800‹C. to form or give off colourless gaseous products which do not react substantially with the gaseous atmosphere in the bulb. Examples of the substance are polymonochlorotrifluoroethylene dissolved in a volatile solvent, e.g., acetone, or benzene, and potassium nitrate dissolved in water. As shown, bulb 1 has two layers 8 and 9. The layer 8 is a fluorinated polymeric carbon compound and the layer 9 is an inorganic substance capable of giving off oxygen or a halogen, e.g., a chlorate, perchlorate or nitrate of an alkali metal.
