Abstract
1,152,383. Cyclohexane. AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS Inc. 30 Sept., 1966, No. 43803/66. Heading C5E. C 1 -C 4 alkylated benzenes are converted to cyclohexane by a process comprising contacting an alkylated benzene-hydrogen mixture with chrome-alumina catalyst in at least one first reactor at 35-84 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> gauge and 566- 677‹ C., cooling the effluent from the first reactor to a temperature of 121-343‹ C., contacting the cooled effluent from the first reactor with a hydrogenation catalyst in at least one second reactor at a pressure substantially equal to that of the first reactor, thereby forming cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane, separating methylcyclohexane from the second reactor effluent, contacting methylcyclohexane with a dehydrogenation catalyst in a third reactor at 14-35 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> gauge and 371- 538‹ C. recycling the reactor effluent obtained in the third reactor to the first reactor and recovering cyclohexane from the second reactor effluent. The hydrogenation catalyst may be Pt, Pd or Ni supported on clay, Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 or SiO 2 . The dehydrogenation catalyst may be 0À2-2% by wt. Pt on an alumina base, preferably containing 0À1-6% of combined halogen. Preferably, the methylcyclohexane separated from the second reactor effluent is mixed with hydrogen before being charged to the third reactor. Diphenyl recovered from the second reactor effluent may be mixed with hydrogen, heated to more than 704‹ C. and recycled to the first reactor. The alkylated benzene feed is preferably toluene, xylene or a mixture thereof.
