Abstract
1,152,234. Mixtures of polyolefins end modified pitch. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 2 Sept., 1966 [10 Sept., 1965], No. 38772/65. Headings C3N and C3P. Moulding compositions comprise pitch derived from the heat treatment of coal and modified by the addition of formaldehyde, in admixture with a polyolefin. The polyolefin may be polyethylene or polypropylene. The pitch may be derived by heat treating finely divided coal in a fluidized bed, or by treating coal in a coke oven. The pitch may be modified by heating with formaldehyde, e.g. in the form of paraformaldehyde or formalin, optionally in the presence of hydrochloric acid; and vulcanized or unvulcanized natural or synthetic rubber, and hexamethylene tetramine may be added to the compositions. Examples describe moulding compositions comprising polypropylene and formaldehyde modified pitch (1) with and (2 and 3) without hexamethylene tetramine.
