Abstract
1,151,978. Modifying silver surfaces. W. PREH [trading as PREH ELEKTROFEIN MECHANISCHE WERKE JAKOB PREH NACHFOLGER]. April 17, 1968 [April 27, 1967], No. 18200/68. Heading C7U. Silver surfaces are protected against the action of hydrogen sulphide by treatment with a solution in an organic solvent of iodine or an iodine containing compound which has the same reaction to silver as elementary iodine, and allowing the evaporation of the solvent so as to form a protective layer. The organic solvent may be a halogenated hydrocarbon, alcohol, ether or ketone and the iodine compound may be iodoform or tetraiodopyrrale. The solution may also contain up to 10% of a contact grease such as petroleum jelly or paraffin oil.
