Abstract

1,151,857. Alternators. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 28 Sept., 1966 [19 Oct., 1965], No. 44165/65. Heading H2A. A permanent magnet multiphase alternator includes within a casing 11 a full-wave rectifier including for each alternator phase a thyristor 31 controlled to regulate the alternator output and a diode 32, and also a plurality of heat sinks 23 connected one to each phase and each supporting a diode and a thyristor with the diode cathode and thyristor anode in electrical contact therewith the diode anodes and thyristor cathodes being connected to alternator output terminals 33, 34. As shown, the latter connections are via flexible leads 24 to a printed circuit-board 21 carrying a voltage regulator 35 which incorporates an oscillator supplying the thyristor gate current and controlled by a Zener diode. A fan 14 is provided outside the casing, and the rotor assembly 16, carrying permanent magnets 9, is formed with a fan 20 which draws air through slots in an insulating member 18.
