Abstract

1,151,191. Ventilators. COLT VENTILATION & HEATING Ltd. 13 May, 1966 [19 May, 1965], No. 21120/65. Heading F4V. A powered discharge ventilator comprises a base 10 which is attached to a roof, and to which a Venturi-like fan casing is attached, the fan casing being flared at its upper end and coming to a crown 14 and extending outwardly and downwardly to form a flange 15. An impeller 24 is located within the fan casing downstream of the throat 12 thereof, the blades 25 of the impeller 24 being shaped so as to sweep closely a frusto-conical section 31 of the fan casing. The fan casing is covered by a cowl 32 comprising a substantially flat cover portion and a downwardly curved peripheral portion 33. A non-return valve member 41 may be located above the crown 14 of the fan casing which in operation of the ventilator is held in the position shown in chain-dotted outline by air pressure. When the ventilator is not in operation, the valve 41 covers the outlet end of the fan casing and is held there by toggle action by hinge members 45. The air from the trailing edge 29 of the impeller blades 25 is said to escape from the ventilator without turbulence through the outlet passage 34 between the flange 15 of the fan casing and the peripheral portion 33 of the cowl. The ventilator may be rectangular in outline, with rounded corners, or may be circular in outline. In a modification, the frustoconical section 31 of the fan casing may be attached to the impeller blades 25, and may run closely in a gap or a recess formed between adjacent stationary sections of the fan casing.
