1,150,620. Preparation of 2-substituted-N- acyloxazolidines. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 21 March, 1968 [21 March, 1967], No. 13768/68. Addition to 1,148,704. Heading C2C. New compounds of the general formula where R<SP>a</SP> is a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic group having 2 or more carbon atoms derived from an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic mono- or dicarboxylic acid, R<SP>b</SP> is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group and R<SP>c </SP>is a hydrocarbon group provided that R<SP>b</SP> and R<SP>c</SP> together contain from 1-7 carbons, are prepared by condensing an N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-amide of an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic mono- or dicarboxylic acid with an aldehyde or ketone having from 2-8 carbons. The N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-amide may be prepared by reacting monoethanolamine with an appropriate acid, as above, or with a lower (C 1-8 ) alkyl ester. The process may be carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst or a titanate. These novel compounds are valuable bacteriostats, fungistats, antistatics, textile auxiliaries and lubricants for plastics.
