Abstract
1,149,873. Roof ventilators. WRIGHT FAVELL Ltd. 26 Feb., 1968 [24 Feb., 1967], No. 8907/67. Heading F4V. A roof ventilator having a duct portion 1, of galvanized iron or fibre glass, a flange 2 for mounting on the roof, and an operable cowl 3 fitted with a retaining stay 4, is provided with two extractor fans so controlled with interlocking means that; when one fan stops the other is started. A set of pivoted shutters 13 beneath each fan is opened by a reversible electric motor 17 when the appropriate fan is brought into operation. The control means comprises starters each with an over-load cut-out also a timer connected to the starters so that when one starter is tripped the other is activated after say 5 sees. A warning light indicates the changeover. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the lower part (1b) of the ventilator is connected to the end of an extraction outlet inside the roof of the building. Also the shutters are opened solely by the air flow caused by each fan. The shutters close by gravity. A strip of felt may be stuck to each shutter to cushion the impact on closing. These embodiments enable one fan to be serviced while the other is operating.
