Abstract

1,149,485. Reversible double casement windows. A. H. MOORE. 21 April, 1967, No. 17510/66. Headings E1J and E2F. In a double casement window 3, 4, each casement 3, 4 has hinges comprising vertically aligned studs 14 fixed, as by being welded to angle brackets 13 secured in turn to the top and bottom rails and received in slots 17, 18 in slotted planks 16, the slots 17, 18 being so arranged that the sheds 14 can move in the slots to permit the casements, while coupled together to be swung out of the window frame so that the glass of the casements can be cleaned from the interior of a room. In the embodiment shown for lighter weight casements, each casement has its own studs 14 and slotted plate 16 as shown in Fig. 5, in which case the coupled casements can be swung outwardly to a limited extent (dotdash lines) and inwardly (broken lines) and in the latter case, the casements when uncoupled may be swung relatively about their own pivots for cleaning of the interior surfaces of the glass, the separation between the casements being sufficient to allow this. In a second embodiment for heavier casements, the two casements are permanently coupled by a respective single central stud plate connected to the top and bottom rails with a respective single slotted plate mounted on the upper and lower members of the frame. Nylon washers are inserted between the brackets 13 and the plates 16. The casements are releasably restrained from opening inwardly by a hinged frame 10 of channel section containing resilient strip 12 to form an air seal between casements and frame.
