Abstract

1,149,479. Rotary-drum apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. G. March 12, 1968 [Dec. 23, 1967], No. 12073/68. Heading C6C. [Also in Division D1] Rotary-drum apparatus for processing materials in a liquor, e.g. for depilating or tanning hides and skins, comprises a screening drum 1 rotatably mounted, e.g. on stub-axles 13 in a frame (not shown) within a bath 2 pivotable about an axis coinciding with the axis of rotation of the drum, which drum is provided with a peripheral opening through which materials can be charged into or discharged from the drum, and a slidable hatch 3 for covering the opening when materials are being processed, the hatch being holdable to the bath, as by releasable coupling means 8 comprising at least one radially slidable pin engageable with an aperture in the hatch, so that the drum together with the bath can be turned to a charging position, Fig. 1, or a discharging position, Fig. 6, in both of which positions the opening is uncovered. Stops 6 and 7 on the drum limit the sliding movements of the hatch, which is preferably provided, at its ends, with releasable devices 4 and 5 for locking the closed hatch to the drum, e.g. during processing, Fig. 3. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the bath 2 may be locked to the frame by a bolt-lock 10-9. The drum is rotated, e.g. anti-clockwise until the opening is covered by the hatch and then clockwise during processing and uncovering of the opening, by a motor (not shown) which is itself reversible, or drives the drum through reversible gears. Liquor may be fed into the bath through at least one pipe 11. The bath may be provided with heating jackets 12, and with one or more probes (not shown) for measuring the pH of the liquor.
