Abstract
1,148,992. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 Oct., 1967 [18 Oct., 1966], No. 46814/67. Heading H1D. In a colour television tube having a substantially rectangular colour selection electrode -as shown, a shadow mask 3, Fig. 1-the electrode is secured to a frame 4 provided with a flat flange 5, and is supported by at least three metal strips which each have a rectangular bend and one limb extending parallel to the tube axis and supported by a supporting point provided on the tube wall, and each strip consisting at least in part of bi-metal, whereby upon temperature rise in operation of the tube, the electrode-due to warping of the bi-metalhas a component of displacement directed towards the tube screen, thereby reducing the mis-register between the electrode apertures and the associated group of colour elements caused by the temperature rise. The bi-metal 10 may, as shown, be welded directly to the flange at 11 and the supporting strip at 12; alternatively, limb 9 of the strip may be welded to the flange and have a strip of different metal welded to it over an intervening portion to form the bi-metal (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). The strips 8 are supported from the tube wall by the engagement of springs 7 over conical bosses 6. The flange 5 may either be continuous or supported only in the regions of the strips 8, and the surface of the flange remote from the tube screen may be blackened to enhance its effect as a cooling fin.
