1,148,615. Lauric acid; heptadecyl alcohol. M. M. LEVKOVICH, and V. D. MEZHOV. 28 July, 1967, No. 34799/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions B1 and C5] Liquid containing n-lauric acid or n-heptadecyl alcohol is cooled to form the crystalline compound and liquid impurity at a temperature of 0À3-18‹ C. below the actual crystallization temperature of the compound in presence of the impurity, whereafter the liquid impurity is removed in a press operating at a pressure of 50-300 atmos. and at the temperature of the cooling zone. In a multi-stage purification process, the cooling temperatures of the initial, intermediate and final stages may be 10- 18‹ C., 3-10‹C. and 0À3-3‹ C. respectively below the crystallization temperature. Liquid material is picked up as a film on a thermostatted rotary drum 4 which is surmounted by a thermostatted jacket 7 and the resulting solid/liquid product is scraped off by a blade 8 and passed to a thermostatted press 10.
