Abstract
1,148,419. Selective signalling. SIEMENS A.G. 1 Sept., 1967 [8 Sept., 1966], No. 40179/67. Heading G4H. In a voltage digitizer of the type in which an input voltage, from a low impedance source, e.g. from a thermo-couple G 1 , is converted SFU into a corresponding frequency which is then counted Z for a reference period ZG, a high impedance A.C. source U, having a frequency which is a sub-multiple of the reference period ZG, is superimposed upon the input voltage, the arrangement being such that when the low impedance source G 1 is correctly connected the superimposed A.C. is heavily attenuated and only a little reaches the converter SFU (and what does reach the converter has no effect upon the count) but if a fault develops in a low impedance source, or in the connections to it, then the full unattenuated superimposed A.C. reaches the converter SFU causing it to produce, at the positive peaks of the A.C., a frequency which exceeds that which would normally be produced if no fault had developed, which frequency is detected ZK, GU, to actuate a fault indicating device.
