Abstract
1,148,153. 5 - Alkylidene norbornenes. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 23 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 29139/67. Heading C5E. 5-Alkylidene norbornenes having the formula where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 each represent a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 alkyl group, are prepared by isomerization of the corresponding 5-alkenyl norbornenes at - 50‹ C. to 275‹ C. in the presence of a solution of an alkali metal or organometallic alkali metal compound in a phosphoric acid tris-dialkylamide of formula where each R is C 1-4 alkyl, the amount of alkali metal or organometallic alkali metal compound being 0À0002-2À5 mols per mol of 5-alkenyl norbomene. Examples describe the preparation of 5-ethylidene norbornene from 5-vinyl norbornene.
