Abstract

1,148,094. Valves. W. E. & F. DOBSON Ltd. 22 July, 1966 [24 Aug., 1965], No. 36202/65. Heading F2V. A combined relief and release valve for a pit prop comprises a valve closure 17 co-operating with a seat formed on a stepped bore of a seating member 11 and having a throttling portion 18 extending into the narrow part of the bore when the valve is closed. The valve closure is connected to a stem 8 by a ball and socket connection, the stem being loaded by a spring towards the valve closed position. In the event of overload, the valve is raised to provide restricted release of pressure, but on manual actuation or sudden overload, the valve is raised to allow more rapid release of pressure. The valve closure or seat preferably has a knife edge. The main portion of the valve closure is of substantially square or triangular section to allow flow to the outlets 28.
