Abstract

1,148,004. Rotary cutting apparatus. HENRY SIMON Ltd. 15 May, 1967 [1 June, 1966], No. 24430/66. Heading B4B. A rotary anvil assembly for rotary die cutting units comprising a frame 20 having an anvil roll 4 rotatably mounted therein and covered by a resilient material 6, e.g. polyurethane, and means 66, 76 for axially adjusting the position of the roll in the frame. The roll 4 is provided at one end with a stub shaft 22 mounted in a bearing 24 which is eccentrically carried by a housing 26. A gear 58 is rotatably mounted on a hub 60 and adapted to rotate the roll 4 via a stud-and-plate coupling 40, 42, 44, 46. The end of stub-shaft is coupled by a yoke 68 to a threaded shaft 74 rotatable by a hand wheel 76. In operation, when a portion of the surface of the resilient cover 6 becomes damaged the roll may be axially moved relative to cutters (14, Fig. 1) on a die roll (10). The cover 6 is formed with projections 84 adapted to engage in T-slots formed in the periphery of the anvil roll 4.
