Abstract

1,147,126. Plating barrels. G.S. EQUIPMENT CO. Jan. 8, 1968 [ Feb. 23, 1967], No. 1091/68. Heading C7B. A cover for a plating barrel comprises a closure panel and a member overlying and movable on the panel and having a locking structure along a side thereof, the locking structure being movable, upon movement of the overlying member relative to the panel, between a release position and a position in which the locking structure projects beyond the side of the panel. The cover is positioned between adjacent ribs of a plating barrel the ribs being formed with seatings on to which the panel and overlying member rest and grooves into which the locking structure may project. In the forms described the overlying member is formed with slots in the direction of movement of said member, and the member is secured on to the panel by knobs 29 having a shank portion passing through said slots and screwing into the panel. The locking device may be operated by moving the overlying member lengthwise along the panel, the member being formed with a series of tongues 28 which, in the locking position are positioned beneath tongues 44 extending from the ribs to which the panel is to be locked; or the movement of the member may cause rotation of arms 53 pivoted on the panel such that the ends of the arms extend into a groove in the ribs adjacent the panel. Alternatively the member may move transversely relative to the panel the edge of the member sliding into a groove in the ribs, either the panel being provided with two members, one locking each side against the adjacent ribs, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), or with a sliding member along one edge, the other edge being provided with a rigidly attached member which slots into the groove in the adjacent rib of the barrel Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown). The panel and member may be provided with electrolyte circulation holes, those in the member preferably being of larger diameter than those in the panel. The barrel is preferably made of a plastic material such as polypropylene, polymethacrylate or polystyrene.
